One cannot be indifferent to the boho style in the interior: you either love it with all your heart or you don’t. But no matter how you feel about bohemian design, the fact remains that it is impossible to imagine a more comfortable and unusual style.
Characteristic features of the style
Unlike the original European styles that originated in French villages or English mansions, boho originates in the Bohemia region (Czech Republic), in which free nomadic gypsies, called Bohemians, lived in the 17th century. The term bohemian originated from them, demonstrating a lifestyle similar to the gypsy of the creative intelligentsia.
The boho style in design is recognizable at first sight because it has a number of distinctive features:
- Lots of textiles. Pillows, blankets, rugs, throws, even decor like sheep skin, tapestries or macrame. Fabric decorations should not just be, there should be a lot of them.
- Open storage. A lot of cute little things on the shelves or in the racks merge into a single creative mess.
- A combination of the incompatible. To withstand the atmosphere of style, you do not need to follow the rules: combine any shades, ornaments, or details. The main thing is that the resulting picture reflects the inner world of the owners.
- Natural materials. There is a lot of wood, wool, paper, and brick in the design.
In general, boho in the interior is eclectic - it combines trendy elements with vintage furniture, warm wood with painted brick, and bright colors with neutral tones.
Varieties of boho
How exactly boho will look in interior design depends primarily on what it is added to.
Scandinavian boho
The Scandinavian style is famous for its love of cozy space, but instead of a flashy palette, it prefers discreet white, gray, and beige tones.
A mixture of boho and scandi is calm, conducive to relaxation in the hygge style.
Boho chic
Boho-chic is considered the standard of boho style in the interior of an apartment. Bohemian chic combines natural hues with brighter, more saturated colors. In boho-chic interiors, original metal and glass accents are often found.
Glamorous boho
Most of all fit the description of "modern boho in the interior." Glamor "combs" the carelessness of the bohemian trend, but retains your favorite patterns, bright colors, and a variety of textiles.
Boho loft
If any direction was destined to merge with the boho style in the interior of the house, then this is industrial. Both styles were created by free creative youth, so their combination looks very harmonious. Boho brings color and fabric to the loft, the loft shares rough textures.
Boho classic
Despite the fact that classic and bohemian are as far from each other as hippies are from aristocats, the mix turned out to be successful. From the classical style in it the severity of lines, symmetry. From the bohemian - multicolored colors, little things that create coziness.
Eco boho
In fact, because of the love for wood and living plants, any direction of style can be called eco-friendly. But if you take a pure eco direction, it will be somewhat reminiscent of Scandi: a restrained range, a large number of potted flowers, and natural fabrics.
Boho hippie
Many believe that hippies are the progenitors of the style, but as you already know, this is not so. Hippies only brought some recognizable features to it: geometric patterns and handmade accessories.
What color scheme to use?
The boho style palette can be divided into 2 large groups: neutral and bright.
The first includes shades of white, gray, and sand with small splashes of green, yellow, and blue. Such interiors look natural, and comfortable, performed in Scandi or Eco substyles.
Saturated shades allow you to create an interesting unique design, suitable for people who are not afraid of color and love to surround themselves with unusual things. It can be done in two versions: plain light finish + colored furniture in boho style, decor, or a completely colorful room.
What to consider when choosing a finish?
Most often, repairs are limited to painting walls and ceilings in one color, and laying a wooden floor. The shade of the walls can be light - it will be an excellent backdrop for a bright boho-style decor, or colored, combined with all the elements of the room. One of the vertical surfaces can be accentuated by choosing an abstract or geometric wallpaper, or painted in a bright shade. Do not forget about textures: brick walls or wooden ceilings will suit the style.
What kind of furniture is suitable?
Vintage sofas, bedside tables, and sideboards are best suited as boho-style furniture. If you prefer to buy a new one, pay attention to the upholstery: matting, suede, and eco-leather are suitable for Scandi. Brighter directions will be decorated with a colored sofa in velor, velvet, tapestry.
Upholstered furniture is not only a sofa. Chairs or armchairs in the boho style can be from the same set with an ottoman or, conversely, focus on attention. For the latter, choose wicker models or options with acid upholstery, or an unusual print.
Besides a bed, sofa or armchair, use it as a banquette or coffee table. Cabinet boho furniture should also be old: various chests of drawers, secretaries, and cabinets with scuffs will harmoniously fit into the interior.
