Choose the venue first
Any wedding planner will tell you that wedding venues can really set the mood for the whole event. Especially if you want every part of your wedding to feel connected and in keeping with the overall feel of the event, choose the wedding venue first and then plan the rest of the wedding(décor, music, even your outfits)to fit in with the look and feel of the venue. Stylish wedding venues can get booked up even years in advance, so choosing the venue first will also allow you to know exactly when to book everything else for – you don’t want to spend ages sampling food from different catering firms only to be told that your chosen caterers can’t accommodate a date change!
Coordinate your outfits
It can be easy, especially if one of you is more involved than the other in planning your wedding, to spend a lot of time choosing the perfect outfit for one of the spouses-to-be, and for the other one’s outfit to become an afterthought. For a truly stylish wedding, however, you should make sure that all outfits coordinate – yours, your significant other’s, and your bridal or groom’s parties. If you want to take it a step further, you could decide on one or more wedding colors and ask your guests to dress accordingly too. It will make for stunning photos but be prepared for that one guest who doesn’t get the memo or just refuses to comply – there’s always one!
Choose the music carefully
When choosing the type of music you want at your wedding, the first choice you will face is usually whether you want to hire a DJ or a band. When making that choice, and when talking with your chosen musician(s) about what kind of music they should play, think about the overall feel of your wedding and what type of music might suit it best. If you chose to host your wedding reception ina traditional stately room, for example, a band playing chamber or country music would probably be a more natural choice than a heavy metal DJ. Having said that, you should choose music that you both enjoy – it’s your special day, after all! – and that you know both you two and your guests can dance to. Remember also that most wedding receptions have several parts to them – usually a cocktail hour, a dinner service and then a dance party spearheaded by the couple’s first dance – so you could choose different kinds of music to suit the different parts.
Match the cake to the venue
Yes, you read that right! Even your wedding cake can be designed to match your venue. Tell your bakery about your wedding colors so they can use them for the decorations and see if they might even be able to replicate some part of your venue’s décor (such as gilded features) onto the cake as decorations.
