We love to repurpose items and what better way than to find new ways to use the jewelry you no longer wear? Do you have costume jewelry lying around you thought would never see the light of day again? What about those miscellaneous earrings that are no longer a pair? Strands of pearls for which you thought you would have no use? Rings, pendants, bracelets?
It’s time to bring out those beautiful items that are gathering dust in a shoebox somewhere and get creative!
Sophisticated Fun
Pearls are the sophisticated choice. Of course, the pearls you have sitting in your jewelry box may not be the real thing - but that’s okay! Often we receive strands of pearls that aren’t the right length for our body, consigning them to our jewelry boxes indefinitely.
You can really add some pizzazz to your look by wrapping these pearl strands around your updo. You can also weave them in and out of a braided hairstyle to give your hair a unique look of which others will be envious.
If you’re feeling super crafty, remove some of the pearls from the necklace and stick pieces your hair through them. This idea goes great not only with an updo but also if you’re wearing your hair down. Throw in some curls with those pearls and you’ll look amazing!
Business Casual
It can be hard to find time to balance your work life with your personal life. Trying to find extra time to put into your appearance is not an easy feat, for sure. When you have to get up early and try to make yourself look somewhat presentable, you may find that jewelry is the last thing on your mind to add to your outfit for the day! The great part about repurposing jewelry items you already have is you can mix things up and find items that will look great for the everyday business look.
For example, so many women have earrings that they have lost the match to and still they get thrown into a jewelry box usually never to be seen again. A smart idea to give yourself a dazzling look every day is take some of these mismatched earrings, charms, or even pieces of jewelry that are broken and use them to accentuate the look of a clutch bag. Don’t go overboard - a little accent here or there makes all the difference.
You may carry a clutch with you every day just to have easy access to your foundation, a mirror, lip-gloss, and cell phone. Get out your hot glue gun (you do have one handy, don’t you?) and bedazzle your clutch with pieces of jewelry that no longer seemed to have any purpose. Make it new again and personalized to your own style.
You may be in a hurry with your morning routine and have no time to add in some jewelry to your ensemble, so do this in advance to give your everyday look a pop that everyone will be talking about.
Rings and More
What about those rings that you stuck inside your jewelry box to never be seen again, or that costume jewelry that you thought you would love forever but never seemed to get a chance to wear? It’s time to give these pieces a new life.
You can take a ring and push it down around your ponytail for an interesting look.
If you have costume jewelry that has funky colors, beads, or pendants, you can use these to make keychains for not only yourself but for your friends as well. These could make great gifts and you can be just as creative as you want. It doesn’t matter where they’re heading off to; that personalized keychain will always be right there with them as a reminder of how awesome you are!
Make It Your Own
These are just some ideas for repurposing that old jewelry. Don’t just let it continue to be hidden away in your jewelry box collecting dust. It’s time to add some glitz back to your life and what better way to start than by turning something old into something new? Be creative, have fun, and most importantly just be you and make something you love.
Why not make it a party and have a jewelry repurposing event with your friends? You may even find pieces you can mix and match with your group of friends to make even better looks!
