Bed linen is an important part of healthy sleep and an easy way to change the situation. To go to bed with pleasure, you need to find a design that fits into the interior of the bedroom and does not get bored, as well as a high-quality fabric that will not deteriorate after two or three washes.
I create home textiles and therefore I know what to look for when choosing quality bed linen.
Bed sheets: In line with current trends
Fashion trends change regularly, but in recent years, more and more people prefer minimalism in the interior and furnishings - it's simple, and it's easy to combine with other styles and updates.
You can follow trendy colours. For example, this year the experts of the Pantone Color Institute included shades of green, neutral beige, and rich orange and the main colour of 2020 - Classic Blue, Classic Blue, in the current colour palette.
The TrendBible portal separately noted several universal shades that are suitable for any interior. These are the rich clay Pantone 16-1330 TCX, the “new pink” of 2020, and the olive Pantone 18-0220 TCX, which is easy to play with the theme of greenery and nature, one of the keys to fashion prints.
The most popular prints remain animalistic and floral designs, as well as bright abstract patterns. At the international exhibition of home textiles Heimtextil in 2020, it was recommended to use large and catchy accents in the interior as a source of joyful emotions against the background of everyday stress.
From eco-friendly materials
The trend of conscious consumption is one of the key ones for the modern lifestyle: a person needs to know what exactly he uses and why, and how it will affect the environment and his health. Increasingly, customers are looking for ethical alternatives to synthetics and are choosing materials that appeal to their tactile feel.
Cotton is the most common material. The most popular types of weaving for bed linen are satin and percale. Percale is made from untwisted threads, which gives the effect of starched linen, and satin is made from twisted threads, so it is more delicate, gives a feeling of coolness and has a characteristic sheen.
Organic cotton is grown in fields that do not use chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
One of the most environmentally friendly materials is organic cotton. It is grown in a controlled biological environment without the use of pesticides, and natural mixtures, such as soap and pepper, are used to repel pests. It has a rather high price, so you can consider ordinary cotton or hemp fibre as an alternative.
Bed linen made from hemp fibre of textile varieties is hypoallergenic, hygienic and environmentally friendly because pesticides and chemicals are not used in its cultivation. This fibre is considered useful: it helps protect the skin from the harmful effects of the external environment while allowing it to breathe.
Linen remains the leader in strength. It is hypoallergenic and can thermoregulate, so linen bed linen is comfortable at any time of the year. If you do not like the rough natural texture, you can choose sets of softened or washed linen - it is much more pleasant to the touch. You can combine soft cotton bed sheets with linen duvet covers.
Monochromatic - for a classic interior
You can think over the interior to the smallest detail and create a dream bedroom only with the help of a set that is ideally suited in style.
Classics always look status, but not necessarily pretentious. Bed linen for such an interior is better to choose muted pastel or dark solid colours. The fabric is also important: natural silk or 100% cotton, such as satin, is best.
Basic colours and simple prints for a minimalist and Scandinavian interior
A minimum of details, simplicity and purity of colours, and precision of lines are the main features of minimalism. The Scandinavian style is very close to it in spirit - a unique combination of a rough northern colour and home comfort.
You can forget about complex prints in these two styles - monochromatic sets in the spirit of the general colour scheme of the interior or options with a large simple pattern in two or three colours are best suited. Of the materials, cotton is suitable - dense percale or satin in combination with linen.
The preferred colour scheme consists of basic shades - white, beige, grey or dark blue. You can complete the design of the room with a cosy blanket: the more voluminous and warmer it is, the better it fits the theme of minimalism or Scandinavian style. Pick up pillowcases from linen. In order not to make a mistake with the colour scheme, I recommend using plain soft and muted colours - terracotta, dark blue or any shades of grey.

Textured, but dim - for the loft style
The loft style requires a special approach in the selection of textures: so that the interior does not look boring or uncomfortable, it is often diluted with additional decor using metal or wooden elements. Linen is suitable as a material for home textiles - it looks textured, but thanks to softening technology it becomes comfortable and pleasant for the body.
If you don’t like linen sheets, you can use satin sheets made of soft cotton, and choose linen for the duvet cover and pillowcases. In order not to make a mistake with the colour scheme, I recommend using plain soft, and muted colours - terracotta, dark blue, or any shades of grey.
